When the baby’s cord is healing, make sure you always keep the area clean and dry. Wash your hands thoroughly before touching your baby’s cord since germs can be carried on your hands. The belly button area should be cleaned at least once a day especially if it looks moist or sticky.
Warm baby cloths and blankets are important. A cloth head covering is also important. Babies can lose a lot of heat through their scalps.
